Twenty questions. No filters. Just the truth.
Q: Why did you become an agent?
A: I’ve always had an obsession with justice. The FBI gave me structure, but enough freedom to do things my way. And if I have to choose, I’ll take hunting cryptid monsters over human ones any day. At least the monsters don’t lie about what they are.
Q: What’s it like hunting monsters?
A: Quiet, until it’s not. You learn to trust your instincts, shut out the noise, and move fast. The hardest part is finding them and catching them. They’re smarter than you think.
Q: What scares you the most? A: Losing the people I still have. I’ve already buried too many.
Q: If you could go back and change one thing, what would it be?
A: I would’ve listened more when my mom spoke in Karuk. I didn't realize at the time how important that part of me was.
Q: What keeps you going?
A: Knowing that if I stop, someone else might not make it home. That, and the people who still believe in me.
Q: What’s your relationship with your uncle like?
A: Ben’s solid. Always has been. He has always believed in me and someone I can depend upon. He is my safe place.
Q: And Jacobi?
A: He gets it. Doesn’t flinch when things get ugly. He’s seen the worst parts of me and hasn’t walked away. Yet.
Q: Do you want a family someday?
A: I had one. I lost it. That word still hurts. But yeah... sometimes I think about it but in the end, I don't think it would be fair to have children.
Q: Favorite memory of your mom?
A: She used to sing while cleaning fish. No one sings doing that, but she made it sound like a ceremony.
Q: Do you still have nightmares?
A: Every time I close my eyes.
Q: How do you deal with the trauma?
A: Work. I try not to sit still long enough to give those thoughts a chance to creep in. When that doesn't work, Vodka.
Q: Have you ever killed something you didn’t want to?
A: Yes. I don't kill for fun. Never have. But in this line of work, you can't always get the monsters to agree with you.
Q: What’s one thing people get wrong about you?
A: That I’m cold. I just don’t show my cards to strangers.
Q: What’s something you miss? A: The sound of my dad’s boots on the porch. He always stomped the dirt off. Also, him shining his good shoes. I'd sit and watch him. There was just something calming about it.
Q: What’s your guilty pleasure? A: Blueberry pancakes. Mozzarella cheese sticks. Bad horror movies. Jacobi singing out loud when he doesn’t think I’m listening.
Q: If you weren’t in the FBI, what would you be doing?
A: I’d probably have a shack in the woods, a dog with one ear, and no phone signal. Heaven. That is the dream, but I think I would get bored after a week or two. Unfortunately.
Q: Most dangerous moment on the job?
A: They all blur together. But there was one night in Alabama I thought I wouldn’t see the sun again.
Q: Do you believe in fate?
A: No. I believe in choices and consequences.
Q: What do you want people to remember about you?
A: That I didn’t look away when it counted and I always tried to do my best. I am not perfect, but I will always try.
Q: If your parents could see you now, what do you think they’d say?
A: I hope they’d be proud. I think my mom would worry. My dad would hand me another knife.
